WHAT ARE MENNONITES?

The Mennonite Church is a Christ-centered, biblically based community of faith which began in Europe in the 1500's as part of the Radical Reformation. Today it is a multi-ethnic worldwide community. In Vancouver, churches worship in English, Chinese, Spanish, German, Vietnamese and Japanese.

People at Peace Mennonite worship, study, and serve together. The pastoral team provides leadership for a strong volunteer involvement in all programs of the church.

We share common core beliefs with other Christian denominations. Read our Confession of Faith here. Some distinctives include:

  • Mennonites practice adult, or "believers," baptism. This is a sign of cleansing from sin and a commitment to following the way of Jesus Christ.
  • Mennonites believe in non-violence. We believe that Christians should live peacefully and justly, serving God and their country in peaceful and reconciling ways.
  • Mennonites believe in following the example of Christ in daily living. This includes serving people in need.
