Missions and Service Introduction

Missions and Service are what The Church of Jesus Christ is all about. Many of our congregation are and have been involved in various forms of missions and service: some informal or short-term, others longer-term and more formal; some arranged directly through our congregation and our denominational conference structures, others not.

Our congregation's Policy Manual has the following to say about what Missions and Service goals in our church are to be:

  1. To help our congregation respond to the felt needs of people in our community such as poverty, child care and English classes.
  2. To promote awareness of and support overseas missions / missionaries.
  3. To encourage involvement in Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) work and other local programs such as the Richmond Food Bank, MCC Self-Help thrift store, Ten Thousand Villages, and MCC Sales.
  4. To help Members become effective witnesses for Christ.

This branch of our church is under the oversight of the Deacon of Missions and Service who is elected for a term by the congregation. A committee assists the deacon in this.
