Genesis 32:22–32 (CEB)
As we enter a season of wrestling and discernment, Jacob’s story offers both insight and encouragement. Jacob wrestles with God and receives the blessing he seeks—the assurance that God will go with him and before him. He also receives a new name, Israel, marking a new beginning. Remarkably, the name associated with wrestling becomes the name of God’s people.
Why would God choose this name for God’s people? This sermon will explore how wrestling, when motivated by a desire for faithfulness, is a posture God welcomes and blesses. It reveals a deeply relational God who invites us to wrestle, struggle and grow. Faithful wrestling is not a failure of faith; it is part of what it means to be the people of God.
